Linux++:::: Living in the clouds: aws free tier
Posted at 21.Apr,2012 15:43  Comments 0 / Trackbacks 0 / Like this post!

I've wanted to try out Amazon Web Services for a while, but their Credit Card requirement for registration has always put me off.

Finally bit the bullet and surrendered my CC and registered. Registration was quite easy; fill in the forms and click next ;P

AWS offered a year free tier for their selected services. My understanding of the free tier:

  • we get to use for a year from the date we registered
  • there's a quota to the services, if we overstepped would be chargable? or would it be capped. no idea yet.
  • after a year we will be charged accordingly
  • elastic ip will be charged if we do not associate it to any instance

What I did: created an EC2 instance (micro.t) running ubuntu. and slapped an Elastic IP and associated it with the instance.

And I've been checking the activity page everyday, yaknow, just in case .

go for more.
